Transitioning For Teens
The transition from middle school to high school is a milestone in the lives of children, but one that they may or may not be well prepared for on their own. In the latter case, there are several methods through which parents can instill in their children a new set of organizational skills that will be useful in this the next stage of their education. Such methods include activities like keeping a family calendar, introducing checklists, assigning chores that involve categorizing, getting ready the night before, using closet organizers, organizing schoolwork, establishing a homework routine, cooking together and promoting an interest in collecting. These activities are meant to teach children the value of order and organization, as well as help them learn to follow instructions, distribute time efficiently and plan ahead. It is important to always bear in mind that every child is different, so no single approach can be expected to be successful in each case. Organizational skills should be taught in a way that fits each individual child's characteristics and aptitudes.
