Rightsizing Your Life
The term rightsizing is derived from downsizing. Originally, downsizing had a negative connotation, as it meant that people were being laid off from their jobs. However, as the concept started to gain legitimacy as a business strategy, it also began to be applied in a more positive fashion. As the saying goes, sometimes less is more, and taking a minimalistic approach towards business is the right way to go.
The term, however, was also widened in scope, and may be used outside of the business world, and applied to an individual person's life. In that sense, rightsizing one's life may refer to a reorganization of priorities and responsibilities with the goal of achieving a better overall quality of life. For instance, a couple whose children have all left home may choose to rightsize their life by moving out of the house where they raised their family, and into a smaller and more manageable apartment.
